Letter From the Editor
Hi! Welcome to the very first edition of the Fayette County Democratic Party Newsletter! Whether you’re a progressive, moderate, yellow dog, blue dog, new dog, old dog, no dog, or lurker dog, I hope you will find this space informative and welcoming.
We hope to publish this newsletter monthly leading up to the 2022 Midterms and then quarterly or bi-monthly thereafter. We promise not to spam you with breathless calls for action or beg you that you are the only hope for democracy.
As a bit of housekeeping, if you literally cannot handle ANOTHER email in your inbox, we get it. The unsubscribe button is at the end of the newsletter. Should you ever want to come back, simply re-subscribe on our website.
Fair Time
With August and back to school, that means the Fayette County Fair is just around the corner. We are happy to announce that the Fayette County Democratic Party booth and parade float will be back and better than ever!
The fair officially kicks off on Thursday September 1 with Senior Citizen Day and concludes Sunday, September 4 with a concert by country legend Gene Watson and 90’s country act McBride and the Ride. You can check out the entire schedule of events here.
While you’re enjoying everything the fair has to offer, stop by our booth! We’ll be highlighting well known Texas Democrats, offering snacks and water, and being a bright blue presence in our county. There will also be a contest, if you can name the Texas Democrats that are in and around the booth you will be entered to win one of these great prizes:
- An American Flag with pole
- 2 Free passes to an upcoming concert at Bugle Boy
- $75 dollar gift card to Las Fuentes

How We Spent our Summer Vacation
Democracy doesn’t sleep and neither does the Fayette County Democratic Party! We’ve stayed busy this summer writing letters to voters, supporting statewide candidates, and generating new ideas to encourage voting. Take a look at what we’ve been up to.
Noteworthy this Month:
Democrats in Congress deserve a huge kudos for passing Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022, known as the PACT Act. Authored by California Democrat Mark Takano and championed by Veterans groups around the country and well known comedian and activist Jon Stewart, the bill had broad bipartisan support in the House and Senate and was signed into law by President Biden on August 10. This bill significantly expands much needed healthcare to veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits, particularly those used in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.
The PACT Act will bring these changes:
Expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War, and post-9/11 eras
Adds more than 20 new presumptive conditions for burn pits and other toxic exposures
Adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation
Requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA health care
Helps us improve research, staff education, and treatment related to toxic exposures
If you’re a Veteran or survivor, you can file claims now to apply for PACT Act-related benefits. Check out the VA website for more information: PACT Act
Are you registered to vote?? I am! If you are not, we can help! Email us at fayettetxdemocrats@gmail.com.
I don’t know if you know this but, there’s an election in November with a great host of statewide races. If you want to know more about our Democrat candidates up and down the ballot here is a link to a Google Doc with a ton of handy information.

Editor Recommends
Here’s 3 things I have been enjoying this summer!
1. American Nations: A History of the Eleven Regional Rival Cultures of North America by Colin Woodard.- This is an older book (2012) but still incredibly informative. The author posits that rather than thinking of our country as red/blue, north/south/midwest/west, we think of our country as 11 different regions settled by entirely different cultures and circumstances. It’s an extremely readable non-fiction book and definitely helped me gain greater perspective about How We Got Here
2. This desk fan I don’t know about you but my bathroom is hot in the summer. With the steam from the shower and the heat from the lights it is pretty much Humid Mordor in the mornings. I got this desk fan at Walmart (in the green shade) and it has made a huge difference. I turn it on before I get in the shower and it keeps the air circulating enough that I’m not a hot mess before I go outside.
3. Blue Bell Oatmeal Cream Pie Ice Cream Don’t sleep on this, y’all. Oatmeal Cream Pie is one of my least favorite snacks but this ice cream is the best. Oatmeal ice cream with brown sugar swirl, cookie pieces, and a vanilla icing swirl. It’s a satisfying end to any meal. Limited time so if you see it be sure and grab it!
