Thanksgiving Edition - (95% Food & 5% Politics) - We can be grateful for health, happiness, family, pets, the beautiful green countryside, and for what happened Friday on the Texas House of Representatives’ floor. Thanks to the persistent resistance of so many, including YOU, Gov Abbott’s attempts to pass his School Voucher plan has been thwarted, for now. Vouchers are dead. 21 Republicans and all the Democrats voted “Yes” to strip out Vouchers from HB 1, the public education bill passed by Abbott’s Senate. Give yourself a pat on the back for keeping the pressure on with your calls and visits to our politicians this Session! What you do matters!
We’ve been getting stuff done!
We do have some fun, as you can see from these photos from our Trick or Treat on the Square booth, the monthly Democratic Neighbors Luncheon, and at our recent Social at Blissful Folly Farm, it’s not all politics all the time.
Don’t miss the FCDP Wassail Tasting Booth at La Grange’s Schmeckenfest event on Thursday, December 12th from 5pm to 8pm. Our booth will be on the Square in front of the “Celebrations” event venue, 127 N Main St. You will definitely want to sample our Wassail, hang out with us, listen to some Christmas music, maybe sing some carols, and vote for FCDP’s delicious Wassail this year. Imagine Democrats winning!
Please note that due to the close proximity of our Democratic Neighbors Luncheon and Christmas Day, there will not be gathering in December. See you again in January (Save the date 1/18).
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, DEMOCRATS! and now on to the food…
Welcome to “DINING WITH DEMOCRATS, Favorite Recipes from Famous Democrats”, by Vera M. O’Lessker, Copyright 1964. This book was part of our family library as far back as I can recall. Sadly, I don’t think my mother ever put any of these recipes to use in her kitchen, but should you try them, please let me know. I’m especially interested in making the “LBJ Pedernales River Chili”, any advice will be appreciated. “The Executive Branch” chapter below features best loved recipes from LBJ’s family. Chapters titled, “The Senate”, “House of Representatives”, and “Governors” contain may more recipes from throughout the United States. As well, these chapters are also prefaced with clever Democratic Donkey drawings depicting political scenes which are posted below for your amusement. I hope you enjoy this culinary stroll back through time. But not to be outdone by past Texas presidential royalty, our own local party folks have kindly shared their own favorite recipes a little further on in this month’s newsletter.
I hope you enjoyed the drawings which are a hoot when you look closely at a few of them. Hey, and you can copy the images, print them off for your kids and grandkids, or even you, to color.
HERE ARE A FEW RECIPES FROM OUR LOCAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOODIES…and thank you Laura, Mary, Lissa, and Kirk for sharing them with us
